What’s Up at the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre?

Indooroopilly Shopping Centre is the biggest shopping destination in Brisbane's western suburb, holding about 360 shops. Originally built in the 1970’s, the complex with four shopping floors had a different name until 2000. It used to be called Westfield Shoppingtown Indooroopilly until the giant real estate firm The Westfield Group sold half of its stake in the commercial site to the Commonwealth Funds Management (CFM).

The Indooroopilly Shopping Centre is also the workplace of many professionals who are employed in service establishments like major banks, credit firms, and cruise or travel agencies. The commercial site has an office tower with tenants from industries like health care, accounting, law enforcement, and other businesses. The Brisbane City Council Library and the Australian Post Office have branches at this shopping centre, too.

What’s Up at the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre?

In 2015, the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre parking system had a complete overhaul to increase its parking spaces to 4,700 slots. The former Westfield Indooroopilly establishment also introduced the first ticketless parking process in the state of Queensland where vehicles entering the mall's parking area are tagged with an electronic system that identifies and leaves permanent records of the licence plates.

For three hours, visitors can park at the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre parking area for free, but the rate starts at $3 after the third hour and go up every hour from $6 to $15.

A maximum daily rate of $20 is collected for vehicles parked for eight hours or more. Shoppers who spend $200 on any of the stores at the centre can avail of free parking for eight hours as long as they present receipts at the concierge or the information desk at the centre’s first and second levels. Cinema viewers can also enjoy free parking for four hours if they have their movie tickets validated.

In addition, parking is free for visitors who enter the centre after 5:00 p.m. The charges resume at 4:00 a.m. daily. A surcharge of 2.5 per cent may also be added to the parking fees of visitors who opt to pay using a credit card.

Staff Parking Options

The same parking ticketless system applies to staff and employees who work at the mall and its office towers. The Indooroopilly Shopping Centre parking has a designated area for its staff at the upper levels where they pay a flat rate of $3 for limited slots.

Retailers and staff members cannot avail of the free parking options and other parking promos in the shopping centre.

Despite an advanced parking system and a 24-hour full service parking staff, the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre has been besieged with a number of complaints and issues ranging from faulty licence plate recognition system, overcharging and mischarges, confusing parking layout, and delays at the entrance and exits. Some retailers and tenants have also lost customers because of these issues, as visitors forego dropping by the mall to avoid experiencing a parking nightmare.

Visitors who don’t want to be inconvenienced at this car park can take public transports since the centre is accessible by trains and bus stations.
